Altamonte Springs, Florida based BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy released an update and expansion of its hepatitis C virus (HCV) Treatment Path prescriber app to help guide selection of a hepatitis C therapy.
The revamped HCV Treatment Path version 4.0 supports both iOS and Android devices, features an enhanced user interface to ease use on mobile devices, and contains guidelines for all hepatitis C medications including the latest: Gilead Science’s Epclusa, which recently received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.
Epclusa is the only pan-genotypic single tablet regimen for treating adults with genotype 1-6 chronic hepatitis C infection.
The app provides up-to-date treatment guidelines for health care practitioners, based on information from the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) and other scientific sources.
Because numerous new direct-acting oral medications to treat HCV were approved by the FDA over the past few years, and several including Epclusa were approved in the past few months, BioPlus created the app as a tool to connect with the latest treatment information.
The app is designed for prescriber use, and offers up-to-date information on many medications a patient could select for any need – with tools to help streamline selection of the treatment best-suited for each individual patients based on criteria from the FDA and the AASLD.
The app earned a 5-star rating from Apple iTunes and has been downloaded by 3,100 prescribers.
“It’s exciting to get this latest version of our HCV Treatment Path app into prescribers hands to aid in the process of navigating the ever-changing HCV treatment landscape,” said BioPlus chief operations officer Elvin Montanez, in a press release . “As we work with prescribers, we’ve found even more ways that we can improve the performance and functionality of the application in ways that are relevant to the user experience.”
Another BioPlus proprietary web tool Tap App, connects prescribers to the pharmacy and can bring the pharmacy chart into the doctor’s office with real-time specialty pharmacy information and treatment monitoring.
